Beach Bags

Beach Bags

My Facebook page is called Beach Bags and I hope to get people to join me in keeping our beaches clean and tidy.

Well, the idea is a simple one. Every time you go to the beach bring an empty shopping bag. When you leave the beach try to fill it with anything that shouldn’t be there. If it makes the beach dirty or unsafe for people or animals then take it away. If it doesn’t belong there, then take it away.

Anybody can join Beach Bags. If you live near a beach and use it regularly then it’s in your own interest to keep it clean and tidy. This a group for everyone, young or old, to take an interest in their own environment. If we invest our time and energy into looking after our beaches then we will be more encouraged to utilise them for every day life. Hopefully if enough adults can take part in Beach Bags they can show their children to respect their environment and that cleaning up as you go is just a part of life, then maybe in time bringing a bag will just become the normal thing to do.

You never know, if enough people take part regularly maybe we can leave the beach with empty bags too because there won’t be anything to pick up!

I have set up an event for one hour a week, on a Saturday afternoon, for people to be inspired and reminded to take part in Beach Bags. Although the events are just weekly the idea is to remind people that the beach is always there and we all use it. During the summer children will be off school and more people will be using the beach, which is a great thing. With more people comes more maintenance and upkeep. We use the beach, we should respect it and clean it up. Make it part of our routine.

I was inspired to create Beach Bags because we have some beautiful beaches in North County Dublin. We should be using them every day for walking, exercising and enjoying outdoor activities. By incorporating the beach into everyday life we will be more inclined to respect it and therefore we will, hopefully, be inspired to keep it clean, tidy, safe and beautiful.
